ξεπεράσει στο μέλλον τον εαυτό της. Η απάντηση ήρθε όμως 2 χρόνια αργότερα με το Liber Lvcifer I: Khem Sedjet, ένα άλμπουμ πραγματικό κόσμημα για τον ακραίο ήχο, που σπάει όρια και ταμπέλες και μπαίνει άνετα στο Πάνθεον των κυκλοφοριών εκείνων που ορίζουν και καθορίζουν το είδος που ονομάζεται Black Metal.

Ένα από τα πιο δύσκολα εγχειρήματα που είχα ποτέ να κάνω, ήταν να κάτσω και να αποτυπώσω τις σκέψεις, τα συναισθήματα και τη γενικότερη ψυχική κατάσταση που μου προκάλεσε το νέο δημιούργημα
των Thy Darkened Shade, Liber Lvcifer I: Khem Sedjet. Ένα άλμπουμ που ατομικά το περίμενα εναγωνίως και με την έλευση του διαπίστωσα έκπληκτος ότι ήταν πολλά επίπεδα παραπάνω από αυτό που πραγματικά ανέμενα. Ακόμη και την ώρα που καταφέρνω να αρθρώσω αυτές τις γραμμές δεν ξέρω αν πραγματικά έχω καταφέρει να αποτυπώσω σωστά το μεγαλείο αυτής της κυκλοφορίας.
Ας πάρουμε τα πράγματα από την αρχή όμως. Οι Thy Darkened Shade υπάρχουν ως μπάντα από το 1999, παρ’ όλα αυτά παρέμεναν σιωπηλοί μέχρι την κατάλληλη ώρα που θα έκριναν οι ίδιοι ότι είχε φτάσει. Ο Semjaza δραστηριοποιήθηκε σε γνωστές μπάντες της Ελλάδας όπως οι Νergal και οι Kawir, ενώ παράλληλα με τους Shade συμμετέχει στους Acrimonious, Nadiwrath και The Ashes.
H ώρα των Thy Darkened Shade είχε φτάσει όμως και το 2012, η μπάντα εξαπολύει το μυθικό Eternvs Mos, Nex Ritvs, κάνοντας τους πάντες, μαζί και τον γράφοντα, να αναρωτιούνται αν μπορούσε να
Το άλμπουμ είναι ένα εκπληκτικό κράμα ήχων και μελωδίων παλιομοδίτικου ΑΛΗΘΙΝΟΥ heavy metal ( ο Semjaza ποτέ δεν έχει κρύψει την αγάπη του άλλωστε στο παλιό αγνό Heavy Metal ), τεχνικού και συνάμα ώμου και λυσσαλέου Black Metal. Είναι ένας δίσκος που δίνει νέα πνοή στο ταλαιπωρημένο από διαφόρους wannabes είδος, το επαναπροσδιορίζει ουσιαστικά, και στέκεται ψηλά και περήφανα από οποιαδήποτε άλλη κυκλοφορία για το έτος που μας πέρασε. Οι συνθέσεις στο άλμπουμ πιάνουν τέτοιο υψηλό επίπεδο που πραγματικά δυσκολεύεσαι να πιστέψεις ότι ανθρωπινός νους μπορεί να συλλάβει και να υλοποιήσει τέτοιες ιδέες. Και όμως όλα δίνονται σε ένα τέτοιο σύνολο που φαίνεται κάτι το πολύ φυσιολογικό. Οι κιθάρες ξερνάνε επιθετικότητα είναι χειμαρρώδεις σε σημεία, ενώ παράλληλα προσφέρουν στιγμές απίστευτης ατμόσφαιρας. Ένα ιδιαίτερο χαρακτηριστικό που μου έκανε μεγάλη εντύπωση στο άλμπουμ είναι οι πεντακάθαρες μπασογραμμές, πράγμα σπάνιο να συναντήσει κανείς σε Black Metal συγκρότημα. Ίσως η απεριόριστη αγάπη του Semjaza στους Iron Maiden να προσφέρει απλόχερα την εξήγηση. Αυτό όμως μαζί με τα προαναφερθέντα για τις κιθάρες και το ανελέητο παίξιμο στα τύμπανα προσφέρει ένα ανεπανάληπτο rhythm section και στιβαρότητα που είναι απλησίαστη για πάρα πολλές μπάντες. Αυτό που προκαλεί ακόμη μεγαλύτερη εντύπωση είναι
ότι πέρα από τα λυσσαλέα επιθετικά αλλά και ατμοσφαιρικά σημεία του άλμπουμ, υπάρχουν πραγματικά εξωπραγματικές αλλαγές στο ρυθμό που μας κάνουν να μιλάμε για καθαρό progressive παίξιμο με τη σωστή και μεστή έννοια και όχι με την έννοια της φλυαρίας που σε κάνει και βαριέσαι. Όχι καμία σχέση. Το παίξιμο εδώ είναι τόσο προσεκτικό και ώριμο που αντισταθμίζει τη μεγάλη διάρκεια κάποιων κομματιών και ο ακροατής πραγματικά δεν αντιλαμβάνεται το χρόνο που περνά ακούγοντας το άλμπουμ αλλά συνεχώς προσμένει και γι άλλο. Τι κι αν κρατά κοντά στα 80 λεπτά, εγχείρημα πολύ ριψοκίνδυνο για black metal album, ο ακροατής δεν νιώθει στιγμή ότι η μπάντα πλατειάζει, αλλά πάντα μένει να παρακολουθεί προσηλωμένος και να ζητά ακόμη περισσότερο
Το μουσικό κομμάτι δένει άριστα με τα φωνητικά. Ο The A είχε δείξει κάποιες ικανότητες στο ντεμπούτο της μπάντας. Εδώ όμως το πράγμα φτάνει σε άλλα επίπεδα. Θεωρώ χωρίς κανένα περισπασμό ότι η ερμηνεία του στο Liber Lvcifer I: Khem Sedjet τον καθιερώνει σαν έναν από τους άριστους τραγουδιστές στο είδος, όσο κι αν αυτό μπορεί να ακουστεί περίεργο και υπερβολικό σε πολλούς. Τα καθαρά του δεν έχουν προηγούμενο ενώ τα κανονικά Black Metal φωνητικά του είναι τόσο γεμάτα που αποτελούν αναπόσπαστο συστατικό των 11 ύμνων του άλμπουμ.Nα προσθέσουμε οτι στα χορωδικά μέρη συμμετέχει η Choir of the Damned μία ομάδα πέντε ατόμων με πολύ ξεχωριστές φωνές, όπως είναι προφανές.
Ξεχωριστή μνεία πρέπει να γίνει στο εξώφυλλο και γενικότερα στο artwork του άλμπουμ. Δημιουργία της Vamperess Imperium το εξώφυλλο και το artwork είναι κάτι παραπάνω από ένα album cover..Πραγματικό έργο τέχνης που εξυψώνει ακόμη περισσότερο τη μουσική πανδαισία σε ένα απίστευτο σύνολο. Δε μπορεί να σταθεί το μουσικό κομμάτι χωρίς το εικαστικό και αντίστροφα. Ακόμη θυμάμαι το πώς έμεινα να κοιτάζω με τις ώρες την εικόνα του εξώφυλλου όταν πρωτο-αποκαλύφθηκε.
Μην ψάχνετε για ψεγάδια δεν υπάρχουν πουθενά. Η παράγωγη είναι άριστη, καθαρή, προσεγμένη πράγμα σπάνιο για το είδος.
Στιχουργικά το άλμπουμ είναι ένα γριμόριο αφιερωμένο στο Lucifer. Είναι μια κατάθεση πιστής από τη μπάντα και αυτή ακριβώς είναι η αόρατη ουσία που κρατά το δημιούργημα αυτό τόσο ψηλά, από πλευράς τέχνης και δύναμης.
Συνοψίζοντας θα πω ότι οι Thy Darkened Shade μας έδωσαν ένα πόνημα που στέκει άπιαστο για πολλούς. Ένα πραγματικό μαύρο έργο που πιστεύω μόνο οι ίδιοι θα ξεπεράσουν, διότι μπορούν .
Το Black Metal είναι κάτι το πολύ σοβαρό, δεν είναι πάρτι και δεν μπορεί να είναι αυτοπροβολή. Ακούγοντας αυτό το άλμπουμ νομίζω ότι πολλοί πρέπει να αναθεωρήσουν και να σταματήσουν να ασχολούνται με αυτήν την ιερή έκφανση της μουσικής.

One of the most difficult projects, I've ever had to do, was to express thoughts, feelings and my general mental state that was into by listening to Thy Darkened Shade’s new creation, Liber Lvcifer I: Khem Sedjet . An album that I was expecting eagerly and was even more surprised when it was released because I found out that it was many levels above than what I expected. Even now while I try to write these lines, I still do not know if I really have managed to express correctly the greatness of this release.
Let's start from the beginning though. The Thy Darkened Shade exists as a band since 1999, nevertheless remained silent until the right time to be considered by them that had arrived. Semjaza was active in several Greek known bands such as Nergal and Kawir, while he also participates in Acrimonious, Nadiwrath and The Ashes.
The time for Thy Darkened Shade had yet arrived in 2012, and the band unleashes the mythical Eternvs Mos, Nex Ritvs, making everyone, the writer included, wondering if this album could be really overcome in the future. The answer came two years later with Liber Lvcifer I: Khem Sedjet, an album - jewel for the extreme sound, that breaks boundaries and music labels and comfortably made its way in the pantheon of those releases that define and determine the musical genre called Black Metal.
The album is a stunning blend of sounds and melodies of TRUE old-fashioned heavy metal (Semjaza has never hidden his love over the old pure Heavy Metal), along with technical and yet furious Black Metal. It is an album that gives fresh air to the troubled, by various wannabes, genre of Black Metal. It is essentially redefining, and standing high and proud than any other release for the year that passed. The songs of the album catch such a high level that it is really hard to believe that a human mind can conceive and implement such ideas. And yet everything is given to such a harmonic set that looks something very normal. The guitars spit aggression and sound torrential in certain points, while they are offering incredible atmosphere moments. One particular feature that impressed me during the album was the crystal clear bass lines, a thing which is rare to encounter in a Black Metal band. Perhaps, Semjaza’s true love to Iron Maiden, can offer a clear explanation to that. But this bass thing along with all previously mentioned stuff above about the guitar performance and the relentless drums playing offer a unique rhythm section and a steadiness that are inaccessible for many bands. What is more striking is that apart from the fiercely aggressive and atmospheric parts of the album, there are really extraordinary changes in the rhythm that make us talk about pure progressive playing with the correct and mature sense and NOT in the sense of pointless and boring playing. No nothing like that. Playing here is so attentive and mature that the listener can’t really understand the time’s passing while listening to the album. He continuously waits for more. So what if the album endures for about 80 minutes? (A venture risky enough for a black metal album). The listener feels that there is absolutely no moment that the band makes him feel bored, but always remains committed to the listening of the album and requests for even more.
The music section blends perfectly with the vocals. The A had shown some skills in the band's debut. But here the thing reaches at really high levels. I state without any distraction that his performance in Liber Lvcifer I: Khem Sedjet establishes him as one of the most outstanding vocalists in the genre. His clear vocals have no match while his normal Black Metal vocals are so full that stand as an integral component of the 11 hymns of the album.Let us add that the choir parts are performed by small team of 5 people with extravagant voices called the Choir of the Damned.
A special mention must be made on the cover and the artwork of the album. Both a creation by Vamperess Imperium stands more than an album cover. A Masterpiece of High Art which elevates the music further into an incredible and unbreakable set. Music cannot stand without the visual art and vice versa. I still remember how I got to stare for hours the picture of the cover when it was first unveiled.
Do not look for flaws as they exist nowhere. The production is excellent, clean and much sophisticated a thing which is rare for the genre.
Lyrically the album is a Grimoire dedicated to Lucifer. It is a testimony of faith by the band and this is precisely the invisible substance that keeps this creation so high, in terms of art and power.
In summary I would say that Thy Darkened Shade gave us an essay that stands difficult to be reached by many. A true Black Masterpiece that the only band itself will overcome because it can.
Black Metal is something very serious, it is not parties and it is certainly not self promotion. Listening to this album I think that many should change views and stop being involved with this sacred aspect of music.
